Was that
thunder? No, it sounded more like a cannon. And by the way, when
was the last time you washed the table? You just did. Then what
is all over it? Dust, sand, maybe ash. Ash! Ash? Hey look at
the sky to the south. It’s like a wall of gray. Oh, I wonder…our
thoughts were confirmed when I asked somebody in the village.
Their reply, “No uladi i poh!” meaning the mountain went boom!
Over 35 miles
from our house we can view the volcano of Rabaul on clear days.
Saturday was not a clear day, in fact it was a pretty clear day,
but not in the direction of the volcano. Though many of the
details are still sketchy, we understand that the volcano had a
major eruption (not just its regular blowing steam like the
picture I took of it on the left). The town of Rabaul is once
again covered in ash and the nearby town of Kokopo, where we get
our supplies, has shut down many of the businesses for the time
being.
Please pray for
those living in the area. Also pray for Papu Sisilia an elderly
Patpatar woman living in the village near us. She is one of the
few alive today that was around during the huge eruption in 1937.
Nearly 70 years later she is reliving the eruption, but this time
her health is poor and her feet are swollen with sores. Our
partners have been taking medicine to her and we pray that she
will recover and live to hear the Gospel.
For Him Who
causes the earth to tremble,
Aaron
