After losing
several hours of sleep, losing our toiletries from the carry-on
scare, and Avalon losing her first tooth we got to Papua New
Guinea. But without our luggage. Alas, it to arrived three weeks
after we did.
The little
surprises along the way were paled by the surprise we receive upon
our arrival into the tribe. I pulled the truck into the village
and shouts of exclamation went up all around us. If not for what
they were saying and their smiles, we may have been scared.
Within a couple minutes the car was surrounded and people were
shaking our hands and welcoming us back. Indeed it was a
surprising welcome.
The next
surprise came only a week later, after we (with the help of the
Kunzers) had finally gotten settled into our home and started into
somewhat of a routine. One of the things to settle was the girls’
room. Before our time in America we had the two girls in one
room. When we got back we decided to put one in each room so that
they would have their own room. We had just gotten things in
order when we found out that we are going to have to put them back
together in one room…to make room for the baby.
We have already
had some great experience in the village and have been learning
more about their language and culture. In the next NGN we will
give you more on that and we will try to keep you updated on the
family member scheduled to arrive at the end of April.
