The Timing Must Be Right
Papua New Guinea
is a great country. It is event oriented. That means that for the
most part, time is not a big deal, rather the event takes
precedence. If something is supposed to start at a certain time,
but the people involved are busy in conversation, working in their
garden, or just feel like resting, it may not get started anywhere
near that time. When the event does start, of course, there is
not an ending time. It just goes until it is finished. In many
ways this makes the culture more relaxed and easy to work with,
but there are times when working with event oriented thinkers can
be frustrating.
This week, our partners, the Kunzers,
and ourselves, are trying to coordinate a mosaic of pieces into
one nicely fitting puzzle in the operation of moving our things
(building material, furniture, appliances, and belongings) to the
tribe. My part will be done in one day. I must confirm supplies
I ordered from 4 different places, and the plan is to have
everything arrive at the wharf on Wednesday morning.
Butch Kunzer has sent our containers by ship
to Rabaul. His job is to meet it at
the wharf on Tuesday. There, a barge is supposed to be waiting so
that everything can be loaded up on Wednesday and set sail for the
tribe on Thursday. On the other side, Jim Marbach (our other
partner) will have a crew lined up to take everything to the
building sites. I give you all these details just to let you know
that many things will be happening in a pretty tight schedule.
Our desire is that it goes according to plan so that everything
can be ready to go when the work team arrives on the 23rd
to build the house. We could certainly use your prayers,
especially in this great “event oriented” country.
Oh yes, speaking of timing, we are
still waiting for the arrival of our baby. Lori passed her due
date on the 11th, so we expect our surprise any day.
Many of you have written to let us know you are praying for us and
we thank you for that and the
encouragement you have given. We are thankful that in all of our
planning we can depend on a Timeless God who sees the beginning
and the end, Who sees the big picture
and every detail, and Who sees entire nations and every
individual!
For His Glory,
Aaron, Lori, Avalon,
and ?
