Papua New Guinea
Papua
New Guinea is located just south of the equator and north of
Australia. Papua New Guinea gained its national independence from
Australia in 1975. The nation consists of the eastern half of the
island of New Guinea and around 600 smaller islands.
The terrain of the land
has many extremes. There are costal, lowlands, tropical rain forest,
and mountainous regions. Papua New Guinea is located within the
Pacific "Ring of Fire," making it subject to earthquakes and volcanic
eruptions.
The population of Papua
New Guinea is 4.5 million people who speak 860 languages. There is a
major shortage of medical facilities and personnel within the
country. There is approximately only one doctor for every 12,874
people living in the country.

Our Task
We
are located in the Patpatar Tribe in the middle of New Ireland. Our
objective is to establish a church that functions with Jesus Christ
as its head, the Holy Spirit as its power, the Word of God as its
guide, the glory of God as its aim, and the salvation of lost souls
as its desire.
Our objective involves a process that takes on average 15 to 20
years. After our training in the United States was finished in
December of 2000 we packed up and moved to Papua New Guinea. We
spent the first year and half working on a missions base doing jobs
to help keep other missionaries in the tribes. In February of 2003
we built a house and moved into the tribe. We along with the Kunzer
family are now involved with the task of learning the language and
culture of the Patpatar people.
After the rigorous process of learning the language and culture of
the tribal people is complete, we will begin teaching literacy so
that the people will be able to read and writer their own language.
At that time we will also begin developing Bible lessons and work on
translation of the Bible into their language. As soon as we are able
to, we will begin teaching the Bible and present the Gospel.
Discipleship and church planting following with the goal of seeing
indiginous leaders raised up to carry on the work.
